Compact Farming: On Farm Workshop & Potluck

Mike and Kelli Roberts of Roots Farm will demonstrate tools and techniques for maximum production in an intensive small plot. The workshop will cover preparation of 30 inch beds, improving soil health for increased crop health as well as planting dates and spacing.
Please bring your favorite dish for the FARM POTLUCK at the end of the workshop.

Historic New England landscape staff are looking for volunteers to help in the Casey Farm agricultural fields.

Volunteers work side by side with staff to care for and learn about these historic farm fields and organic farming. It’s also a chance to share your knowledge and explore the farm.

Tasks include weeding, removing invasive species, and other cleanup activities. Sessions run each week from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00, June through August, with the exception of July 4.

Herbal Remedies: Find and Harvest Plants

Some of the common "weeds" in your garden have long histories as medicinal remedies. Join herbalist Kristin Minto on a walking tour of historic seaside Watson Farm to discover which plants can help relieve common ailments and promote well-being. As we make and sample herbal infusions, discover the history of herbal plant use, identification, and medicinal uses. Learn simple techniques for using herbs in your daily life, and prepare samples to take home. Make a day of it: bring your lunch to eat outside and stay for a self-guided walk around the farm.

Running a profitable Poultry Operation

This workshop will consist of a tour of the Pat's Pastured poultry operation from the brooder and field shelter to the farm processing facility. Farm owner, Patrick McNiff will also describe how his farm systems have evolved over time and give advice to those who are just starting out and experienced growers on how to improve their operations and profitability.
