Advanced Marketing Workshop

Saturday, March 11 | 1:00PM - 5:00PM | Providence, RI | directions | website

Join with other aspiring sustainable farmers who want to grow and sell healthy food for their friends, neighbors and customers in Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls.

Learn how to expand your farmers market sales, what marketing resources and contacts are available for farmers, quality control and consistent supply of product, restaurant sales outreach and invoicing, growers cooperatives, Community Supported Agriculture examples, and other market outlets through SCLT. We will also discuss how to apply to accept farmers market senior vouchers and WIC checks, and the basics of growers’ insurance. Longtime City Farm Steward Rich Pederson will facilitate this workshop for existing growers to expand their farm businesses.

SCLT supports beginning farmers through training, technical assistance, access to land and access to market channels. We welcome farmers and prospective farmers to participate in our programs. Participating in training programs also makes you eligible to lease available SCLT land and to sell through SCLT market opportunities.

The workshop is free but registration is required. Sign up here: bit.ly/2lGP5i1

Hosted by Southside Community Land Trust at the Southside Community Land Trust: 109 Somerset St., Providence, RI.

Assessing and Preparing Land for Farming

Wednesday, March 15 | 5:30PM - 8:30PM | Providence, RI | directions | website

Young Farmer Network and Southside Community Land Trust are excited to offer a Winter Short Course: Moving Onto Your Own Land.
This course will be in three sessions: Land (3/15), Composting (3/26), and Infrastructure (4/2). The sessions are independent from each other - you don’t need to be able to attend all three to participate. Events are free but registration through Eventbrite is required. (http://bit.ly/2m504hb)

The course is geared towards farmers who have experience working on farms but are either considering, in the process of, or recently started a new farming operation. We’ll tackle many of the questions that come up when making decisions about a new piece of land, but the issues addressed are also relevant to any farmers who are active learners!

Hosted by Southside Community Land Trust at the The Met's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship: pin Hide Map 325 Public St, Providence, RI.

White Barn Farm is a small vegetable farm located in Wrentham, Mass. The husband-wife team, Chris and Christy Kantlehner, use organic practices to supply a CSA, farmstand, and restaurant accounts with fresh produce. Many of the crops are produced by transplant – either with the water wheel transplanter or the paper pot transplanter. White Barn Farm also throws a crazy two-day Plant Sale the weekend before Memorial Day every year. Growing seedlings for that very financially significant sale is a major part of early season farmwork at WBF. Christy will share her experience and the methods currently used in her greenhouse. Christy does not at all consider herself an authority on the topic – other experienced growers are encouraged to attend and share. Bring questions and ideas! Try to arrive at 9:45am so we can begin at 10am.

Hosted by SEMAP at the White Barn Farm: 458 South St, Wrentham, MA.
