An evening celebrating Rhode Island farmers, fishermen and food artisans. Featuring a dozen local farmers and producers, each teamed up with chefs from Castle Hill, Blackstone Catering, Newport Restaurant Group and eight more. Plus, local wines, beers, a raw bar, live music by Superchief Trio and a silent auction.

34th Annual Summer Conference
Keynote Speakers Mark McAfee and Arden Andersen
Educational: Over 150 workshops on organic farming, gardening and land care, homesteading, sustainability, nutrition, spirituality, food politics, activism, and more. Special workshops specifically for children and teens. Enlightening keynote speeches on raw milk and sustainable agriculture.
Entertaining: Family contra-dance, zydeco, drumming, Old-fashioned Country Fair, live music, farmer’s market, games and fun.
Economical: Modest registration, inexpensive dorm rooms, and camping and wholesome organic meals.

Beginning and experienced graziers who would like to learn about the tools and resources needed to develop grazing systems and how to improve animal growth or production through better pasture management are invited to attend a Grazing School to be held as part of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) Summer Conference on Saturday, August 9th. Open house set at demonstration vegetable garden
URI Master Gardeners will hold an open house at their Vegetable Demonstration Garden at East Farm Saturday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This free event is designed to give visitors practical information on how to design, build, plant and maintain a successful vegetable garden.
Master Gardeners will be on had to give informal mini-talks on such topics as irrigation, soil preparation, proper tools, seed starting, organic growing practices, pest and disease controls, proper harvesting and growing methods including container gardening.
Four chefs, including professionals Normand J. Leclair and Bruce MacDonald, will give demonstrations using fresh produce and a Master Gardener Kiosk will be set up to provide answers to specific gardening questions. In addition, free pH soil testing will be offered (bring about a cup of soil taken from various parts of your garden or lawn).
This event is one of several free educational outreach programs provided by the Master Gardener Program which is funded largely through plant sales in the spring and fall. There are no plant sales at this open house.
East Farm is a 70-acre experimental research facility located off Route 108 1/2 mile south of the main traffic light in Kingston.

Feast in the Field is a series of culinary experiences held at Rhode Island’s exceptional agricultural settings. This inaugural Feast will benefit Rhode Island FarmWays, a special initiative of the Rhode Island Center for Agricultural Promotion and Education. RICAPE supports the viability of farms and farmers through programs that showcase the history, culture, ecology and beauty of Rhode Island’s farms.
Savor the Flavors… and the View! With Greenvale Vineyards as the scenic backdrop, this evening’s culinary experience features the classical elements and innovative techniques of Chef Glenn Place and executive chefs, Chris Kurtzo and David Sundberg of Tom’s Market Catering in Coventry, RI. Chefs Joe Hafner of Gracie's and Matt Jennings of La Laiterie will be joining us for a Chef Demonstration. Their last demo with us was spontaneous, beautiful, and full of personality--not to mention delicious. We'll also be having our first Coastal Growers' Market Silent Auction from 9:30-11:30.
Come early (8 AM) for a free Walking Yoga class, and stay all morning for Music, Johnnycakes, Alpacas, and of course lots and lots of TOMATOES! We'll have samples of dozens of organic heirloom tomato varieties, all grown locally by Casey Farm and Ledge Ends Produce.
