CSA’s are a great way for you to eat locally, seasonally, and diversely. Every farm runs their CSA differently. We focus on diversity and quality. We try to grow varieties of veggies and herbs that you just can’t find at the grocery store. Of course you’ll get familiar veggies too. Above all, we care for the land using sustainable biodynamic practices that ensure the food you’re getting every week is the best. How do I join the CSA? You can contact us via email or phone, or you can go to this form on the web and it will capture your answers to these questions. http://goo.gl/forms/fipKF7sx26 • Let us know which season(s) you’d like to try this year. • Give us some basic information so we can keep in contact ➢ Your name ➢ Your cell phone (texting is great!) ➢ Your email address ➢ Mailing address (for thank you letters) • It is not mandatory, but it helps us if you can prepay for 1-5 weeks. • Consider following/liking us on Facebook and/or Instagram because this is how we communicate each week about what’s in the box. What’s in the CSA Share? Oh the joys each week brings! It depends on what looks and tastes best on the day we harvest. You will be delighted and surprised. Throughout the seasons you’ll see a mix of eggs, herbs, root crops, salad greens, cooking greens, and veggies. You’ll receive a box/cooler that may have anywhere from 6 to 12 or more items in it. We try to pack enough of each item to prepare for a meal or two, but not so much that you’re overwhelmed. Feel free to look at the past pictures on our Facebook and Instagram pages, they say more than I can. How do I get my CSA box/cooler? Each season will have different pick up hours. We encourage you to pick up the veggies on that day. The good news is that if you need more time, your veggies will stay fresh for some time. When you join, we set aside and label a cooler just for your family. Each week, we pack your cooler with the veggies and ice. Then we set them in the pick-up area at the farm. Pick up time starts at 4PM, and you have about 24 hours to unpack your cooler. Customers have enjoyed this flexibility, because it gives them a large enough window for someone in the family to swing by. We suggest you bring reusable bags or even your own cooler. We need you to leave the cooler so we can clean and pack it for the next week. Coolers that are left beyond 24 hours will either be donated to a local family, or fed to the chickens. If you want us to leave it outside longer than 24 hours and replace the ice, let us know and we can, but we want you to get it as soon as you can to preserve the quality. Flexible Seasons Most CSA’s run only in the summer (Late June through September). However, we specialize in extending the growing season. We start harvesting veggies in April and continue picking fresh veggies and herbs through December. Your CSA will start and end based on your preferences. For your convenience, we offer 3 seasons to enter and exit the CSA. We suggest you try all 3 seasons your first year, so you see the full spectrum of flavors the year can provide. Let us know which season(s) you’re interested in. • Spring CSA – Starting in April and ending in late June. Pick up day: Sunday starting at 4 PM. Mark will notify you of your official start date. We start the season with 3 members, and as the harvest increases, add new members in. • Summer CSA – Starting in late June through Late August. Two possible pick up days: Sunday starting after 4PM, or Thursday starting after 4 PM. • Fall CSA – Starting in Early September through Mid December. Pick up day: Sunday starting at 4 PM. Mark will notify you of your last official end date. As the harvest decreases, we support fewer shares. How much does the CSA cost? We have a flat rate of $30 per week. Right now we accept cash or checks made out to “Mark Gostkiewicz”. All balances must be paid by the last pick up day of the season. We’ve set this price to be competitive with the $34/week average within New London County (summer 2014). You can pay as you go, or pay for several weeks ahead of time. It is not mandatory, but it helps us if you can prepay for 1-5 weeks at the start of the season. This gives us some seed money, literally, and money to buy a cooler for your family. There are times when you may purchase extra food for your box as well (more eggs, extra herbs that were not in the selection that week, more green beans to freeze for the winter. Sometimes we say that we have more, but feel free to ask). We are a family first and a farm second. Thank you for supporting a small farm. You will get to know us as a family. We have two small children; there are times when family comes first and we cannot provide a CSA harvest for a week. The good news is you pay by the week and only when we provide a CSA box for you. So there is no risk for you, but there is the possibility that Mark will email/call/text you to say there is no CSA for the week. We will let you know as soon as we can. In the last two years, we’ve only missed a couple weeks.

Provider Farm
At Provider Farm, we strive to give you the freedom to choose your own share, so we distribute our vegetables using the "mix and match" method. This means you get to pick and choose what is in your share, based upon what is in season of course. Kids hate rutabagas? Get more carrots! It's your choice! CSAs also enrich the community, becoming a vibrant meeting place for community members. Our CSA hosts events around the farm and always encourages CSA shareholders to do the same. Are you an ardent canner? Come teach others your techniques! We firmly believe in the CSA as a place to for our neighbors to get to know each other as we share in this experience. What's in a share? A share is a portion of the week's harvest of vegetables and herbs. We have three different share sizes to fit everyone's needs. A small share provides about 5-6 lbs of produce a week and is good for folks who eat out a lot or are cooking for one or two. A regular share is suitable for a small family and provides about 10-15 lbs of produce a week and is good for shareholders who eat in mostly. A large share is good for a bigger family or folks who eat a lot of vegetables. It will provide you with 15-20 lbs of produce a week. Pick ups will be here at Provider Farm on Fridays from 2-7 PM and begin in early of June and extend to the beginning of November.

What is CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture, often shortened to CSA, is a prepaid subscription to a farm's produce for the season. Most CSAs give shareholders a weekly supply of veggies, herbs, fruits and sometimes even eggs and meat. You know it's fresh and you get to meet the farm and people who grew your food! The prepaid CSA arrangements also makes it a source of financial security for the farmer. Some CSAs also incorporate farm workdays for shareholders. Pickup days vary by farm and there are pickup locations across Connecticut.

CSAs have been very popular recently. Be sure to sign up early before subscriptions are filled!
